How can you participate in the Introductory programme?

Below is a list of contact persons for the Introductory programme in your district. The contact person should help you register for Norwegian language training.

Who is involved in making the programme in Oslo?

Close cooperation with Aetat is central in the programme.

Urban districts
Oslo's districts are the first to receive and settle refugees. An offer to participate in the programme should be given no later than 3 months after settlement.

The Introductory Act (Introduksjonsloven) states that each participant should have an individual plan adapted to needs and future plans. The plan is set up and adjusted in cooperation with the contact person in your urban district. The plan contains information on your professional and/or educational background, what you want to do in Norway, how to reach your goals, and other useful information: family situation, health, housing, etc.

Language training and other qualifying courses are offered in the urban districts; for instance language courses, computer training, health courses and parent role guiding.

Adult education - The education authorities
The education authorities are responsible for providing classes in Norwegian Language and Society, adult education on primary/lower secondary and upper secondary level, and counselling on further education and recognition of foreign credentials. For most participants, language training will be the main activity in the Introductory programme.

Initially, the Introductory programme will focus on language training on a full-time basis. Some courses will combine classroom instruction and practice in the workplace.

The counselling and information service (IR-tjenesten)
The counselling and information service in Rosenhof Adult Education Centre provides advise and information on Norwegian language training, recognition of foreign credentials, education and work in Norway, both to programme participants and to programme coordinators/contact persons. This can be done individually or in groups.

The counselling and information service is heading a project, financed by UDI, to plan and organise the language training in the Introductory programme in Oslo, finding the best possible models for language training and cooperation between the urban districts and adult education centres.

Through this website - www.velkommenoslo.no, the counselling and information service provides updated information on Norwegian language training options in Oslo.
